Our Story

A calm second floor above a city that rarely slows down.

Intermezzo sits one level above the lobby of the JW Marriott Marquis Miami — a 41-story tower rising 502 feet over Downtown Miami. When it opened in 2010, it was the first JW Marriott Marquis to open anywhere in the world.

The hotel’s dining room roster reads like a small culinary district of its own — db Bistro Moderne by Daniel Boulud, Thirty Five Restaurant, Met Bar & Grill. Intermezzo is its quieter counterpoint: an espresso bar built for the moments between meetings, not the evening’s main event.

Guests reach it from the guest-room elevators or the wide escalators beside reception — a short rise that trades the bustle of the lobby for polished stone floors, rich wood tones, and the low hum of an espresso machine at work.

Coffee Philosophy

Certified Artisti del Gusto — the Italian standard for espresso done right.

Intermezzo is partnered with illy, the Trieste roaster whose espresso has anchored Italian coffee culture since 1933. The bar carries illy’s Artisti del Gusto distinction — a designation reserved for venues that meet its standard for an authentically prepared Italian espresso, cup after cup.

That standard shapes everything on the bar: the grind, the tamp, the extraction time, the temperature of the milk. It is a small, exacting craft, practiced quietly on the second floor of a five-star hotel.
